Diane Keaton Proves She’s Still the Boss With One Kitschy Hat

Diane Keaton is known for her quirky personal style as much as she is her acting roles. Her iconic turn in Annie Hall, for instance, will forever be remembered by its chic menswear-inspired vest, white button-up, and tie. Off-screen, Keaton has maintained her own distinctive look as well, often favoring classic white and black getups that are worn with her signature bolo hats. (A big hat requires a big personality, after all.)

Today, she proved she’s the boss of pretty much everything with a kitschy post on Instagram. Captioned “I’m not bossy, I’m the boss,” Keaton is seen wearing a crisp white shirt—collar popped—with a black beanie covering her eyes. The hat is monogrammed with the word “Boss” in big and bold letters at the front. A quick social media deep-dive proves she’s certainly the boss of #ootd posts: a week ago, she also posted a full-length pic asking her followers what to wear. One option was a camel coat, leather skirt, and leopard-print booties; another was a boxy plaid overcoat, paired with an above-the-knee turtleneck dress.

Is Keaton Instagram’s next style influencer? One must remember: she’s the OG trendsetter, and that’s something today’s influencers simply can’t copy.

Rita Ora Delivers the Antidote to the Frumpy, Michelin-Man Puffer

Oh, the puffer: perhaps the trickiest winter coat of them all! Though the cozy insulated coat provides the kind of reassuring warmth few other outerwear pieces can, its voluminous silhouette can read 100 percent Michelin Man. But fear not: there is an answer to this seasonal conundrum, and Rita Ora just might have it.

The British singer combatted the brisk weather while performing at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City yesterday, dressed in an above-the-knee puffer coat by Moncler. With its extra-puffy sleeves and cinched waist, the coat had a more tailored line than you’d expect from the average puffer.

To streamline her ensemble further still, she paired the coat with black tights and a sheer, lace-trimmed skirt. Accessories such as a hefty pair of lug-sole combat boots were primed for chilly temperatures.

Sahle-Work Zewde Is Ethiopia’s First Woman President and Africa’s Only Serving Female Head of State

Ethiopia made history on Thursday when its parliament named the nation’s first-ever woman president and currently Africa’s only serving female head of state: Sahle-Work Zewde, a veteran diplomat and former United Nations official. In an address after taking her oath of office, President Sahle-Work, 68, pledged to work toward a “society that rejects the oppression of women” and to strive for peace and unity. And to those who may have thought that she talks too much about women, the new head of state of Africa’s second most populous nation said she’s only just getting started.

It’s being noted in the wake of Sahle-Work’s election by Ethiopia’s parliament that “president” is a largely ceremonial post in Ethiopia, with more executive power held by the prime minister (Abiy Ahmed). Since taking office in April, 42-year-old Abiy has made progressive changes in the country including releasing political prisoners, welcoming back exiled dissidents, and brokering peace with long-standing adversary Eritrea, The Washington Post noted. He’s also called for the promotion of more women, resulting in a pink wave of sorts: After a recent cabinet reshuffling, half of the posts are now held by women.

Sahle-Work’s appointment was cheered by the PM’s chief of staff (and de facto spokesperson), Fitsum Arega, on Twitter. He wrote, “In a patriarchal society such as ours, the appointment of a female head of state not only sets the standard for the future but also normalizes women as decision-makers in public life.” Here’s hoping someday the U.S. will catch up.

Queen Letizia of Spain Really Loves Her Steve Madden Heels

Earlier today, Queen Letizia of Spain hosted an audience at Zarzuela Palace to honor the creation of a new painting room at the Prado Museum. And while Her Majesty has lately taken her regal wardrobe into directional territory—Massimo Dutti’s printed accordion-pleat dress for day, Pedro del Hierro’s midnight-blue asymmetric jumpsuit after dark—today she returned to a classic look.

The Hugo Boss tweed suit is a go-to for Letizia, who first donned the ensemble this past March for a ceremony in Madrid on World Rare Disease Day, and wore it again in May for Red Cross World Day. The black leather trim created a graphic look together with her black mock-neck top. The interplay of textures on her suit was nicely set off by the transparent PVC strap on her black heels, which were also a wardrobe repeat: Steve Madden's Plaza pumps. It seems even royals love a good deal.

Rihanna Will Stage a Savage x Fenty Show at New York Fashion Week

Grab your wineglasses, because Rihanna is back! After taking a season off from New York Fashion Week, everyone’s favorite singer turned fashion impresario is officially returning to the #NYFW schedule. This time, she’s bringing her line of lingerie and intimate accessories to the runway with a Savage x Fenty presentation on September 12.

In what a press release describes as an “immersive experience,” the Savage x Fenty event will showcase Rihanna’s new collection in a see-now-buy-now format, with the Fall range immediately available to shop at SavageX.com. Pop-ups in New York, at the Mall of America, and in two as-yet-unannounced locations will follow. While few details are available about the nature of the event or the collection, you can bet that many of Rihanna’s favorite muses will be there, promoting body positivity, female sexuality, and killer style.

With a 7:30 p.m. time slot, Rihanna’s inaugural lingerie presentation will become the unofficial closer of NYFW, following the 6:00 p.m. Marc Jacobs show. The exact location has not been revealed, but Rihanna is set on bringing the fashion crowd out of Manhattan. To Brooklyn! That’s one way to top pink sand dunes and backflipping BMX riders.

Gigi Hadid’s Supermodel Guide to Wearing All Black

Wearing all black is a classic, and easy, outfit choice; Mix and match your favorite pieces and there’s no worrying about clashing or coordinating (unless you’re OCD about your shades of black matching). It can be timeless and chic, but the colorless look can sometimes lead one astray, too—perhaps it turns out too bland, or too gothic, à la Hot Topic teens. But worn like a true supermodel, such as Gigi Hadid this weekend, and the all-black aesthetic suddenly feels fresh again. (Even in the height of summer.) The trick? It’s all in the styling.

Stepping out in New York City this weekend, Hadid wore black in a cool, no-fuss way. She paired classic black items like a spaghetti-strap tank and ripped jeans, styling them with on-theme accessories: A python-printed belt and pointed cowboy boots, which gave her look a slight western feel. To elevate the whole ensemble, she wore a black cardi off-the-shoulder, a mini top handle Versace bag, and tiny little sunglasses, one of her signature finishing touches.

Here’s How Marie-Louise Sciò Dresses to Run One of the World’s Most Elite Hotels

Marie-Louise Sciò grew up in a Slim Aarons photograph. Her family has owned and operated the Il Pellicano hotel since 1979, and Aarons famously captured its magic—and its recognizable yellow-and-white striped sun umbrellas—early on, when she was running around the cliffside grounds as a little girl. The chic accommodations sit on the coastline of Porto Ercole in Italy, about a two-hour drive from Rome, and its iconic guest book includes names like Sophia Loren, Jackie Onassis, and Kate Moss, among many other elites from the very upper echelons of high society. Today, Sciò is the vice president and creative director of the Pellicano Group, which also includes a second property in Ladispoli (also just outside of Rome) called La Posta Vecchia. Both hotels are exquisitely decorated with colorful Pierre Frey fabrics and lush antique furniture, thanks largely to Sciò. Her finely tuned aesthetic has come to represent the ideal la dolce vita escape and as such, she has a perfectly curated work wardrobe to match.

“My father really passed on his love for anything that is well made to me, as did my mother,” Sciò says. She looks to her family for guidance not only in the business itself, but as she always notes, for stylistic touches, too. But these hotels are hers now, and she has fully embraced the role of boss. While Sciò does try to “blend in” with the guests while she is at Il Pellicano or La Posta Vecchia by donning breezy dresses in bold colors and prints, she favors more tailored coats, blazers, jeans, T-shirts, and flat shoes for traversing from meeting to meeting on Rome’s cobblestone streets. Recently, Sciò has also taken her love of fashion and formed a new venture with her friend J.J. Martin, designer and founder of La DoubleJ. The pair have collaborated on a line of printed dresses for the shop at Il Pellicano.

Whether she is running a meeting in Rome or heading up a new design or hospitality project at Il Pellicano or La Posta Vecchia, Sciò manages to balance it all while looking as chic as her hotels always do.

Did Bella Hadid Intentionally Commit a Fashion Faux Pas?

Yesterday, Bella Hadid posted a photo of herself coolly crouched on a chair in a casual look that consisted of hoops, a green sweatshirt, short-shorts, as well as some chic eyewear. The glasses were actually from her sister Gigi Hadid’s collaboration with Vogue Eyewear, which was plain to see: The tortoiseshell frames boasted a fresh-from-the-package sticker that said “Vogue.” Was the sticker a mistake? Does the younger Hadid have plans to return her sister’s 20/20 creation? Did she simply forget that it was there? Could it be that her eyesight is just that bad?

Probably not. It was likely a statement on Hadid’s part and actually was a smart marketing move. This morning, a photo wire service captioned the image: “Bella Hadid rocks new Vogue eyeglasses with the label still across the lens.” No one needed to tap for credits to figure out what label Hadid was wearing because the sticker said it all. (Not a bad move considering that glasses can be the toughest accessories to identify label-wise.) Looks like Hadid just turned a faux pas into a fashion win for her and her sister. After all, why tag the label when you can just keep the tag on?

Queen Rania of Jordan Channels a Modern Day Princess Grace

Earlier this week, Queen Rania of Jordan turned heads in a chic midi skirt by Reemami. Today, while receiving Austrian president Alexander Van der Bellen at the royal palace in Amman, Her Majesty again showcased her directional, yet polished style acumen by infusing the classic gingham fabric with her personal touch.

Queen Rania kept things simple in a tailored white shirt, tucked neatly into her Sara Battaglia skirt, for a nod toward Grace Kelly and Carolina Herrera’s effortless polish. The high-waisted skirt featured a built-in corset top, asymmetric button placket, and a bow accent for a feminine flourish, while natural tone accessories finished the look in a subtle way.

How Beyoncé Wears One of Kate Middleton’s Favorite Designers

Sure, Beyoncé can rock short shorts and slinky gowns with the best of them, but her latest look skewed prim and proper—a complete 180 from the gold goddess gown she wore earlier this week. The romantic dress with ruffled collar came from Temperley London, a label favored by young royals. Beyoncé added layers of sparkling Lorraine Schwartz jewels, a pair of transparent Tom Ford high heels, and a pastel purse from Delvaux, and the unexpected mix of soft colors and quirky accessories looked fresh.

As one of Kate Middleton’s go-to brands, Temperley offers plenty of ultra-feminine pieces with playful patterns. Beyoncé’s dress fit the bill, but her confident poise and eclectic styling added sex appeal. Granted, it doesn’t take much for Beyoncé to look sexy, but her buttoned-up ensemble showed that sensuality isn’t determined by skin. It’s all about attitude.

Porches and Okay Kaya, Music’s Latest It Couple, on Making Downtown Cool Look Better Together

Aaron Maine and Kaya Wilkins are established musicians in their own right—Maine has earned accolades over the years for the emotionally resonant, increasingly steely songs he records as Porches, while Wilkins makes soulful, intimate music under the name Okay Kaya, in addition to modeling at high-profile runway shows like Balenciaga and Calvin Klein (Vogue dubbed her the “girl of the season” last spring). But the dynamic duo just might be better together: the two have been dating for just over a year and their relationship has informed their shared style, both in terms of their clothes and their music. It even plays a starring role on The House, Porches’s just released third studio album.

According to Wilkins, they bumped into each other one night just over a year ago, after which Maine invited her to sing on his new album. As far as first impressions go, Maine remembers Wilkins’s white athletic socks and Dr. Martens sandals, while Wilkins recalls Maine’s then bleach-blonde hair (and expresses some mortification that she wore a faux fur that she had picked up in an airport that fateful night). It took Wilkins a few weeks to respond to Maine’s text, as she had gone back home to Norway to shoot Thelma, a coming-of-age thriller directed by Joachim Trier; the prolonged silence left Maine wondering if she didn’t really vibe with his music. But once Wilkins returned, they set a date to record, which became their first official hang-out after years of being mutual fans of each other’s music. “It only took one day to make the song,” Wilkins says, perched on the bed in her small, but light-filled Greenpoint apartment. “It was fun. It felt pretty organic.”

That first studio session eventually turned into the mid-album cut “Åkeren,” a poem entirely sung by Wilkins in her native Norwegian. It’s a rare Porches song that doesn’t feature Maine’s idiosyncratic vocals (aside from “Understanding,” a song that Maine’s dad wrote and sang). “Those moments feel so good and so much more of a truer reflection of my life,” Maine says between sips of an apricot LaCroix, of adding unexpected new voices to his album. To wit, The House finds him continuing to stretch the scuzzy, guitar-oriented sound of his earlier music, leaning further into the warm synth arrangements that characterized his last record, 2016’s Pool.
