It would be hard to imagine a holiday season without a holiday movie to go with it; at least, that is likely to be what many people would claim. As Christmas is approaching, here are six recommended Christmas movies for you.
1. Christmas Story
A Finnish Christmas film for the entire family tells the touching story of how Santa Claus came to be Santa.
Christmas Story, directed by Juha Wuolijoki, was the top-grossing Finnish film of 2007 and was re-released theatrically in 2008 and 2009. It is the first big Finnish Christmas film that has won numerous awards at international festivals, including Best in World Cinema at the 10th Sarasota Film Festival in 2008.
2. Miracle on 34th Street
Miracle on 34th Street is a 1947 Christmas film written by George Seaton from a story by Valentine Davies, directed by George Seaton and starring Maureen O'Hara, John Payne, Natalie Wood and Edmund Gwenn.
It is the story of what takes place in New York City following Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, as people are left wondering whether or not a department store Santa might be the real thing. Because of its Christmas theme, the film has become a perennial Christmas favorite.
3. The Polar Express
The Polar Express is a 2004 film about a boy who learns the true meaning of Christmas when he takes a train ride to the North Pole. It is based on the children's book of the same title by Chris Van Allsburg.
The film stars Daryl Sabara, Nona Gaye, Jimmy Bennett, and Eddie Deezen, with Tom Hanks in six distinct roles. The film also included a performance by Tinashe at age 9, who later gained exposure as a pop singer in 2010, as the CGI-model for "Hero Girl".
4. Elf
Elf (stylized as elf) is a 2003 comedy film directed by Jon Favreau, written by David Berenbaum and starring Will Ferrell, James Caan, and Zooey Deschanel.
Buddy the Elf moves out of Santa’s Workshop and into human society as he tries to find his real dad. Soon enough, he learns that the real world is not as cheery and content as he had become accustomed.
5. Santa Baby
Santa Baby is an ABC Family Original Movie. The film stars Jenny McCarthy, Ivan Sergei, and George Wendt and was filmed in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was directed by Ron Underwood.
Mary is a high powered businesswoman who runs her own marketing and business advice company. However, her roots are at the North Pole... yes, she's Santa's daughter. When Santa has some health problems, Mrs. Claus calls Mary in to help get everything ready for the Big Day that is fast approaching.
6. Jingle All the Way
Jingle All the Way is a 1996 American family comedy film directed by Brian Levant and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sinbad, Phil Hartman, Rita Wilson, Jake Lloyd, James Belushi and Robert Conrad.
The plot focuses on two rival fathers, workaholic Howard Langston (Schwarzenegger) and postal worker Myron Larabee (Sinbad), both desperately trying to retrieve a Turbo-Man action figure for their respective sons on a last minute shopping spree on Christmas Eve.
